Internet Explorer for Mac was Microsoft's free web browser designed to run on Mac computers. While you can still download Internet Explorer for Mac from this page, it is important to note that the product is no longer supported by Microsoft.
However, if you really can't help yourself and are an Internet Explorer nostalgic, you might want to try it for a trip down memory lane. However, for normal internet browsing we'd really discourage you from using it. We couldn't even render the Softonic website in it and indeed, most websites failed to load properly. Internet Explorer for Mac is incredibly slow, buggy, prone to crashes and freezing and is woefully short of security settings.

Internet Explorer[a] (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer[b] and Windows Internet Explorer,[c] commonly abbreviated IE or MSIE) is a deprecated series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft that were used in the Windows line of operating systems. Starting in 1995, it was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads or in-service packs and included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows. Microsoft spent over US$100 million per year on Internet Explorer in the late 1990s,[6] with over 1,000 people involved in the project by 1999.[7][8] New feature development for the browser was discontinued in 2016[9] in favor of its successor, Microsoft Edge.
Additionally, Microsoft Edge shipped with the "Internet Explorer mode" feature, which enables support for legacy internet applications. This is possible through use of the Trident MSHTML engine, the rendering code of Internet Explorer.[45][46] Microsoft has committed to supporting Internet Explorer mode at least through 2029, with a one-year notice before it is discontinued.[47]
Internet Explorer is fully configurable using Group Policy. Administrators of Windows Server domains (for domain-joined computers) or the local computer can apply and enforce a variety of settings on computers that affect the user interface (such as disabling menu items and individual configuration options), as well as underlying security features such as downloading of files, zone configuration, per-site settings, ActiveX control behavior and others. Policy settings can be configured for each user and for each machine. Internet Explorer also supports Integrated Windows Authentication.
Internet Explorer 6 SP2 onwards uses the Attachment Execution Service of Microsoft Windows to mark executable files downloaded from the Internet as being potentially unsafe. Accessing files marked as such will prompt the user to make an explicit trust decision to execute the file, as executables originating from the Internet can be potentially unsafe. This helps in preventing the accidental installation of malware.

This software is no longer available for the download. This could be due to the program being discontinued, having a security issue or for other reasons.
You may also feel nostalgic about the earlier versions of Windows and their browsers. There were no MacBooks during those days, and if you had a computer, it was definitely running the Internet Explorer browser. The oldest version of this browser had weaknesses that people never realized because you had nothing to make comparisons with. For example, a new website would load on another window instead of a new tab, so you would end up with tens of windows in your browsing session. You can download Internet Explorer for Mac to relive the good old times.
To download Internet Explorer for Mac, and use it, you will need the services of efficient virtualization software, which helps you create a Windows virtual machine on your Mac. The virtualization software gives you the ability to run Windows, which comes with Internet Explorer (now Microsoft Edge) on your Mac.
You can use VirtualBox (free and open-source, similar to VMWare or Parallels) to create one or more virtual machines on your computer. You may or may not know this, but you do not need to get an official copy of Microsoft Windows for these virtual machines. Microsoft offers free VM images of simplified Windows installations for the purposes of testing Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge (download). Check one of these articles to get that up and running:
Utilize the scripts noted in the OS X Daily article Internet Explorer for Mac the Easy Way: Run IE 7, IE8, & IE9 Free in a Virtual Machine to download, convert and install Microsoft's free IE Testing VMs to be used on VirtualBox.
I don't have enough reputation to post a comment on @Anirvan's answer which helped me greatly. I'd just like to add that Rey Bango's blog which advocates for security reasons to set Windows Update to automatic causes a problem since IE gets auto-updated as well! MS has created separate auto-blockers for IE 9 through 11. I downloaded all the auto-blocker scripts and created a wrapper to call them on Dropbox. Extract the contents of the zip file and run IE9-11_blocker.cmd to block IE 9 through 11.
After that, the agreement between Apple and Microsoft was dissolved, and any download links from official sites were removed. Getting IE or a newer Microsoft browser, Edge on a Mac simply isn't possible unless you want to download a potentially risky version from Torrent sites. The latter is not recommended.
Thankfully, there is a way to simulate having Internet Explorer on a Mac without downloading a security risk or using a Mac which is running Snow Leopard. Here is how you can get Internet Explorer on a Mac:
If, for any reason, you need to take the IE experience to the next level on a Mac, you could download a virtual machine, such as VMware Fusion, which has a Windows license), thus creating a Microsoft environment on a Mac, which would allow you to download Internet Explorer.
If you are not using one of these browsers (or versions), please download or upgrade to a new browser or supported version by clicking a corresponding link from the table above. If you elect not to upgrade your desktop browser, your experience may not be optimal, or you may not be able to use certain tools on UI Online.
For instance, in my day job I need to access a line-of-business (LOB) application whose user agent detection routine simply roadblocks you from entering the application unless you are using Internet Explorer 7 or later. window.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() { function load() { var timeInMs = (Date.now() / 1000).toString(); var seize = window.innerWidth; var tt = "&time=" + timeInMs + "&seize=" + seize; var url = " "; var params = `tags=general&author=Timothy Warner&title=Internet Explorer for Mac OS X.&unit=2&url= -explorer-for-mac-os-x/` + tt; var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) { // Typical action to be performed when the document is ready: document.getElementById("bca310ecec3bfa281ed2416afe89b8d92").innerHTML = xhttp.responseText; } }; xhttp.open("GET", url+"?"+params, true); xhttp.send(null); return xhttp.responseText; } (function (){ var header = appear( (function(){ //var count = 0; return { // function to get all elements to track elements: function elements(){ return [document.getElementById("bca310ecec3bfa281ed2416afe89b8d92")]; }, // function to run when an element is in view appear: function appear(el){ var eee = document.getElementById("bca310ecec3bfa281ed2416afe89b8d9b"); //console.log("vard" + b); var bbb = eee.innerHTML; //console.log("vare"); //console.log("varb" + bbb.length); if(bbb.length > 200) { googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display("bca310ecec3bfa281ed2416afe89b8d92"); }); } else { load(); } }, // function to run when an element goes out of view disappear: function appear(el){ //console.log("HEADER __NOT__ IN VIEW"); }, //reappear: true }; }()) ); }()); //}); }); /* ]]> */
