ISO evaluates the organization of fire/rescue services to determine the effectiveness of the fire/rescue community's emergency response. We examine the fire department's structure and training to determine how well the department can function in the event of a fire or other emergency. Our evaluations focus on fire/rescue organizations, but we also look at some aspects of police and ambulance services as well. We review the fire/rescue community's readiness to mobilize and to provide adequate response time in the event of an emergency. We also look at incident command structure, emergency medical services, outreach and public education, and training. We determine the availability and adequacy of equipment and apparatus by reviewing the community's inventory of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency equipment. We also look at the adequacy of staffing, training, and qualifications of personnel to provide emergency services. We determine the community's readiness to respond in the event of a disaster by assessing its plans, equipment, emergency communication systems, and emergency training.Fire/rescue organizations can use our data and information to improve their readiness to respond to emergencies and to promote effective emergency response training. As a community looks to increase its resilience during the long term, it needs to address climate change's increased risks, including the risks posed by disasters. ISO evaluates communities' resilience to climate risks to determine the effectiveness of their emergency plans, emergency communications systems, preparedness for wildfire, and other issues. Insurance and community officials can use our data to help them evaluate their communities' emergency-response readiness and to improve the strength of their emergency plans. Local governments can use our data to increase their resilience by improving their emergency response plans, emergency communications, preparedness for wildfire, and other issues. What we do at ISO is important to creating safe communities, because our work helps reduce property loss and ensures that loss is spread fairly among policyholders. Insurance companies use our data to help determine their risk-based insurance premiums. They can use our data to better evaluate the properties they're considering insuring and to set fair premiums that reflect the risk of loss to those properties. Our work is also important to communities.
A review of the police account for 30 points of the total classification. ISO examines a community's law enforcement activities to determine if the community is prepared to prevent, control, and mitigate the loss of life and property from disasters. We review the adequacy of a community's response to emergencies, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes. We also look at other hazards, such as floods, avalanches, and lightning. We use a variety of data, including local newspapers and radio stations, emergency communications, emergency management records, and reports from the public safety agencies. Our findings are not intended as a legal tool to judge whether a community is liable in a lawsuit. We aim to provide objective data to help communities understand how they are performing and what they need to do to improve their response to emergencies. 827ec27edc
