found USB scanner (vendor=0x055f, product=0x0006, chip=MA-1017) at libusb:001:003 # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.I would have expected a device name in place of libusb:001:003 in the aboveoutput.Anyway, I now try to scan something:scanimage -LThis gives an error as follows:No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by thesane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentationwhich came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).Taking a stab in the dark, I tried to install a driver module for the scanner:modprobe mustek_usbFATAL: Module mustek_usb not found.I guess that I do need to load some modules for the scanner.I have just found a man page, which I will be looking at over the next fewdays:man sane-mustek_usbIf anyone has any pointers with regards to using this device with Debian, then please let me know. Thanks in advance,Mark.-- Mark HobleyLinux User: #370818
I am working through the sane documentation.The configuration file /etc/sane.d/mustek_usb.conf now contains the followingentries:# Autodetect 1200 UB and Trust Compact Scan USB 19200usb 0x055f 0x0006/dev/bus/usb/001/003option 1200ubDevices are managed by udev on Debian.man sane-usb states:Libusb can only access your scanner if it's not claimed by the kernel scanner driver.This filesystem must be mounted. That's done automatically at boot time, if/etc/fstab contains a line like this: none /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0 0I have added that line to /etc/fstab and mounted the usbfs filesystem:cat /proc/bus/usb/devices gives:T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=02 Dev#= 3 Spd=12 MxCh= 0D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1P: Vendor=055f ProdID=0006 Rev= 1.00C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=496mAI:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=(none)E: Ad=01(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 2 Ivl=0msE: Ad=82(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0msE: Ad=83(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 1 Ivl=1msI did some googling, and that is the Mustek scanner :)scanimage -L still does not list the scanner at this time.I am working through the rest of the notes relating to udev now.

It is in blackand white at the moment though.I'll have a play now to see if I can get a colour scan.Cheers, 153554b96e
