NARA is continuing to make available full-text digital images of all of that pressure sensitive ink for US Army records in the Quartermaster Department. For the World War II period, that means more than 4.5 million images of all of that ink from the quartermaster checkout punch cards.
NARA has completed the conversion of more than four million items from more than two million books. NARA is in the process of converting records from five million books that will provide detailed narrative text about nearly half of all US Army personnel during World War II (from 1944 through 1946).
NARA's electronic records archives (ERA) provide an historical record of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps; separate duty rosters and substitution records of the Army; personnel records of officers and enlisted personnel; and consolidated payroll records of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Pamphlets and box files represent less than one-third of the approximately 1.7 million items held in the ERA.
The Catalog of War Records (NCW) is a joint project of NARA and the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). The NCW is a multidisciplinary project designed to make information about World War II service records available to anyone who wants them. The NCW is the most comprehensive current repository of government records related to World War II service. Diverse collections of records are being combined under one classification system to facilitate cross referencing. d2c66b5586
